¡¡¡BIENVENIDOS!!!
Respetados colegas/amigas/os:
En tiempos de reconstrucciones personales de nuestras identidades como nuevos americanos en los Estados Unidos, y en especial en las comunidades in/migrantes en Owensboro y la región, un grupo de líderes de la comunidad hispana y de profesores de la Universidad Brescia estamos interesados en documentar las necesidades sociales, culturales, educativas, lingüísticas y de alfabetización de las comunidades hispanas/latinas dentro de su inclusión en sus nuevas vidas en Kentucky. Para este propósito, estamos organizando la I CONVENCION HISPANA/LATINA el 02 de mayo, 09 de 10am and 5pm. De 10 a 12 pm, haremos preguntas (en distintos grupos) para identificar las necesidades más importantes para los asistentes. Luego seguirá un almuerzo. De 1 a 5 pm, algunos grupos culturales estarán ejecutando sus números musicales, de baile o artísticos para las distintas comunidades asistentes.
En este blog, por favor, en primer lugar les pedimos que compartan sus opiniones o sugerencias acerca de este evento. En segundo lugar, también les pedimos sus opiniones o sugerencias para poder reforzar nuestras conecciones entre las distintas comunidades hispanas/latinas en Owensboro y la región y la Universidad Brescia. Si usted no vive en Kentucky pero tiene experiencia en la interacción entre las comunidades inmigrantes y las instituciones educativas universitarias, nos sentiremos honrados de leer sus comentarios.

Dear colegas/amigas/os:
In times of self-reconstructions of the lives and identities of new Americanos in the United States, and with a special focus on the immigrant communities around the large metropolitan Owensboro area, a group of leaders from Hispanic/Latino organizations and faculty from Brescia University are interested in documenting the social, cultural, educational, linguistic, literacy needs of Hispanic/Latino members as part their inclusion in their new Kentucky lives and identities. Importantly, this academic objective will be complemented with a social-cultural objective in which the community members feel welcome by the University campus facilities and the unique cultural performances. To attain these two objectives, we will have the I HISPANIC/LATINO CONVENCION (May 02, 09 from 10.00 am to 5 pm) in which we will explore the importance of the Hispanic/Latino visitors’ needs, and have brief focus-group sessions on which needs are more relevant than others. Second, if food donations are received by that day, we will provide a slight snack to the attendees. We will also provide Brescia University pens or other accessories if possible. In the ambiance of the social-cultural component, different cultural Hispanic/Latino groups will be performing from 1 to 5pm.
The first objective to create this BLOG is to read your and others’ comments and suggestions for this event. A second objective is to provide us your opinions on how we can strengthen our connections between Hispanic/Latinos, their lives and communities in Owensboro (and the region) and Brescia University. If you don’t live in Owensboro, but you have experience in the topic of immigrant communities and their links with academic institutions, please we will be honored to have your comments.
